Job Summary

Under supervision records electromotive variations in patient's heart muscle using electrocardiograph to provide data for diagnosis of heart ailments by performing the following duties. Measures by means of an electroencephalograph impulse frequencies and differences in electrical potential between various areas of the brain to obtain data for use in diagnosis of brain disorders.

Essential Functions

  • Performs other physiological tests such as electrocardiogram, electrooculogram, and ambulatory electroencephalogram.
  • Writes reports summarizing test results to assist Physician in diagnosis. Following guidelines obtains and records patient information (i.e., age, medications, allergies).
  • Cleans and sterilizes equipment, maintains adequate supplies, determines level of maintenance required on EKG and EEG equipment, and reports any equipment abnormalities that may alter a test or need repair.
  • Prepares for tests by having the patient’s chart available and reviews with the physician the Protocols and brain wave frequencies to be administered. Prepares the equipment, electrodes and instruments for use during procedures.
  • Monitors electrocardiogram for abnormal patterns. Keys information into EKG machine or marks tracing to indicate positions of chest electrodes.
  • Edits and forwards final EKG test results to attending Physician for analysis and interpretation.
  • Attaches electrodes of Holter monitor (electrocardiograph) to patient to record data over extended period of time.
  • Performs, records and measures electroencephalography (EEG) on medically complex patients, using EEG neurofeedback equipment and instruments.
  • Completes new hire and annual competency evaluation per company policy on all culinary staff
  • Operates recording instruments (EEG and evoked potentials) and supplemental equipment and chooses settings for optimal viewing of nervous system.
  • Monitors food temperatures (internal cooking, holding for each meal) to ensure food safety
  • Assure equipment temperatures are taken in accordance with policy
  • Identifies gross EEG abnormalities and communicates them to the interpreting physician.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Communicates issues, concerns, and opportunities for improvement to immediate supervisor routinely.
  • Conducts visual, auditory, and somatosensory evoked potential response tests to measure latency of response to stimuli. Assures the EEG analyzer is functional and maintained in working order. Verifies calibration of the analyzer prior to each use.

  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English through written and verbal forms.
  • Interpersonal communication skills in order to effectively instruct patients and maintain cooperative working relationships with coworkers.

Qualifications

Licenses/Certification

  • Current BLSC

Experience

  • One (1) year experience in an acute care setting, as an EKG/EEG Technician.
